Veronica Mars: Not Pictured

I think Veronica Mars killed TWoP.

I loved it even while I had issues with it, but it made me freak out and jump around and feel like I'd been punched repeatedly in the gut, just like last year's finale, so overall I'm extremely pleased. Except that I'm completely horrified, because my GOD. There's dark and then there's DARK. Jesus Christ. Poor Mac. Poor everyone. I spent the first half of the episode saying, "Nothing had better happen to Keith, goddammit," and the second half saying, "Keith isn't dead, of course. Of course he isn't. Oh no, not a flashback with sock puppets!" Thank god for Lamb (who had also BETTER NOT BE DEAD; I was a bit unclear on whether he went on the plane or not).

The Beaver reveal reminded me of my shock at the ending of (the movie of) the classic Nick & Nora mystery The Thin Man, back when I first saw it in junior high. If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean. And that didn't even have any rape or mass murder. (In the interest of full disclosure, I also declared at first that Beaver wasn't really the killer; he was just the distraction from the real thing. Silly me, assuming it'd go like last year's.) From the reactions around LJ and on TWoP (when I can get through), I think some people are forgetting the noir aspect of the show. Good guy turns out bad, seeming innocence conceals horrible corruption, the innocent suffer, there's no such thing as a white knight -- those are all themes of noir, and the show's reveling in those roots with this episode.

Speaking of unwhite knights -- Duncan killed Aaron! I have to give him some love for that. I called at the end of last week's episode that Aaron would be dead by the end of tonight's, but I didn't predict from what quarter. Good show, Duncan. Now get that baby off the beach before she sunburns.

I loved the dream sequence; I'm just a sucker for what-ifs. But never again let us speak of a world without the Veronica & Wallace friendship. Or without Keith. Or Lamb, god love 'im.
