Dentist

Well, I had to have three fillings done at the dentist today. My jaw's still a bit sore from the novocaine shots, but otherwise it wasn't terribly bad. The dentist was pretty understanding about my little shot-phobia.

There was a birdfeeder outside of the window, which was a very nice touch. I saw a variety of small yellow birds I think may have been pine warblers, as well as a very impressive red-headed woodpecker who hung around for quite some time. Definitely a pleasant diversion (at least during the portions of the visit when my chair wasn't tilted all the way back).

Hmm. Have to finish my taxes soon (we've done everything except the New York portion of the taxes). So far I owe about $800 (mostly Social Security from when I was "self-employed" as a freelancer for Metro after moving to NC). Nice, huh?

my previous dentist, the one I'd been brought to since a wee lad, loved novacaine shots, and never believed me when I said I still ******* felt the ******* drill.  ahem.

some people are cruel.

Eeeeeeyagh. I did have that happen to me once -- I was getting over a cold, and apparently that lessens the effect of the novocaine. It freaked me the hell out, and I had to get a second shot.

On the way home, the entire left side of my mouth was numb, and my tongue was so numb that I kept biting it by accident. :P

Dentist. Someone you pay, who will sit you down in a chair for an hour to critique your hygiene and drill holes in your head.

Boy did I pick the wrong line of work.

I know -- they don't seem to realize that flossing is HARD, dammit! It takes me 15 minutes to floss completely, and I can never do those fancy techniques they say are so important. Hrmph! No wonder I only floss once in a...hmmm...while.
